What should we learn from the Dutch or a confession of a prostitute

What comes to your mind when you hear “Amsterdam”? Red-light district, coffee shops, and, possibly, bicycles? Let’s find out why the city of drugs, prostitution, and casinos is one of the safest in the world.

The Dutch are world-famous for their tolerance, or rather, the principle called Gedogen, which is the will to reduce harm. Prostitution has existed for thousands of years, and it would be unreasonable to believe that we can get rid of it, but we still can exclude violence, slavery, and children from it.

Women can rent a shop in the red-light district for a shift (12 hours), but if they have earned enough earlier, they are free to leave whenever they want. To be able to work there, you must be at least 21 years old and own a European Union passport. Girls choose their customers and refuse men whom they do not like. A session costs 50 euros and lasts 15 minutes, but visitors spend on average 6 minutes behind the red curtain. Ladies decide which service they are willing to provide. In addition to the classic version (“suck and fuck”), you can, if desired, get an additional service for an additional price, for example, a kiss (“girlfriend experience”) will cost you 120 euros. Despite the fact that many people consider sex workers to be dirty and full of infections, the level of sexually transmitted diseases among them is much lower than of an average resident who is not involved in the sex industry.

It is interesting that the girls have organized a Prostitution Information Center where everyone can chat with representatives of this ancient profession and find out everything that interests them in this field. I managed to talk with a woman who devoted 26 years of life to this business and continues her successful career.

  • Why have you decided to choose this profession?
  • Not everyone succeeds in finding a job in the intellectual sphere, and people choose physical labor. Men can go to work on a construction site, but for women, the choices are not that many.
  • Do you like your job?
  • If you mean getting orgasms, then no because men are not that good, but I like to feel the touch of the skin and the warmth of the human body.
  • Have you faced violence at work?
  • At work — never, but in my personal life — yes.
  • Do you believe in marriage?
  • I do not believe in marriage. It was created at a time when women were not able to earn their own money and had to be supported by their husbands. In the modern world, marriage is no longer necessary, but I believe in love.
  • How does your work affect your health? Aren’t you afraid of getting AIDS or things like that?
  • There are only two diseases that can be transmitted through skin contact — human papillomavirus and herpes. However, almost all people over forty, anyway, carry both infections, regardless of profession. For other illnesses, there is a condom. Also, sexual activity, on the contrary, helps the reproductive system to stay in good shape, and I have much fewer problems than ordinary women of my age.
  • How do you deal with public pressure regarding your profession?
  • It is difficult, but I understand that not every woman could work in the sex industry, which means that I am strong. I am a sex worker and I am proud of it.

In the Netherlands, prostitutes are self-employed. They regularly pay taxes, which means they contribute to the development of the country’s infrastructure, education, and medical care. The taxes they pay to the treasury are used to make payments to refugees and other low-income groups. Sex workers, in turn, are protected by the state. In the event of violence, the police arrive at any store within 90 seconds. In reality, this incident occurred only once, and by the time the police arrived, the offender needed an ambulance, as the girl’s colleagues kicked the violator with high heels.

I believe the labor of sex workers in Amsterdam is worthy of respect. A similar system of legal prostitution should be implemented in all other countries. It protects women from violence and gives them freedom of choice. Unlike refugees, most of whom are young able-bodied men, who abandoned their mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters in a war-torn country where they will most likely be killed, raped or tortured, sex-workers do not receive any money from the state. They fill the treasury doing honest work.

PEOPLE, let’s understand the difference between the bad and the good correctly. Thieves, loafers, murderers, corrupt officials, etc DESERVE shame, disregard, and disgrace. People who honestly work without harming anyone and pay their taxes SHOULD be highly respected.
